Starting Online Classes
After spending three years in online classes and making many mistakes, I learned different tips on how to succeed in an online school. I didn't care about my school, which is why many of the lessons and tips I was told about did not work, at first. After getting motivated and realizing the importance of my education, I started looking at the things that helped me in my online education. I started realizing that other people Could benefit from them as well.
Following the directions and taking notes
Throughout the years, I would skim through directions and throw together my assignments together with very little effort. This showed int the grades I got on my assignment. My parents and teachers told me repetitively to take notes and to pay close attention to the rubric. At the time, I thought that I could do it on my own and when I got it back with a poor grade I would start to lose motivation and stop trying. Even when I would try on my assignments, take notes, and be organized, I would stop halfway through the year because I lost my motivation.
As I started to actually take notes and really read what they wanted in the assignments, I discovered that my grades increased drastically. Even short quick notes on the important things helped my overall understanding and comprehension of the assignment to increase. I also realize that the more organized I was within my schooling the less stress and time it took me to complete my work.
The Value and Difficulty of Perseverance
Perseverance is a good characteristic that will come in handy in your integration to online classes. This is one of the things that I struggled with the most at the beginning of my online schooling. After years of giving up way too soon and even failing a couple of classes, I realized that the thing I was lacking was some perseverance. I started to realize that, whenever I got a bad grade I would lose my motivation and stop trying. As I started to work on my perseverance I realize that, if you don't try, you won't succeed. Sometimes if you continue to push through the hard times and finish the course, you have higher likelihood of succeeding. I continue to remind myself, one grade is not the determining factor of my overall worth. I decided to learn from my mistakes instead of looking at them as failures. When it gets very difficult for you and you feel like giving up, your perseverance can make all the difference in your success. Difficult situations will help you learn and grow your self-worth and knowledge.
Getting Involved and Being Active, Rather Than Sitting On the Sidelines
For the first couple of years of my online schooling, I believed that one of the main perks of being online was not having to interact with people. I learned later on that the interacting with students and teachers was a strength. The more people you interact with and create a strong connection with, the more people are willing to help you in your times of need. I started realizing that the more I communicated with my teachers and my classmates the more I understood in the class and the better my grades got.
Getting more involved in a class can also help you obtain the natural class environment. The interaction between you and the other students can make it easier to integrate into online learning. This can also help with the lack of social interaction. Making friends at your school with your classmates can make your school experience more fun and feel less like a punishment.
Setting Your Own Standards and Reaching Them In Your Own Way
Some goals are already set in your classes. I found it difficult to stay with the goals that were already set with my class, so I found out that it was easier to create my own short-term goals that motivate me to continue in the course. Staying motivated and on top of your classes is easier when you have a goal to work towards.
When creating your goal, it is good to remember to make it hard so that you learn and grow but not impossible. I learned through personal experience that it is easier to stay caught up than to catch back up. For the first two years of my online classes, I ended up getting behind and having to cram at the end of the year. I found that it was easier and less stressful if I kept on track. This also helps with my stress over my lessons and course regimen.
Important things to remember
At the end of the day, it's important to remember that your grade does not determine your worth. What is important is that you try your best. Over time you will find your rhythm and learn from your own mistakes and victories. Trying to stay motivated, confident in what you do, and relying on others are all important parts of your classes Journey.
