What to do in Tamarindo Costa Rica

During my time here in Tamarindo, I have found that there really isn’t much to do unless you have enough money to constantly be buying tours and renting ATVs. So, me being the penny-pincher I must be during the beginning years of my life, I have had to find ways to have fun while keeping a good budget. Here are some ways I have fun in the sun without ending up a bum.

#5 Tamarindo Costa Rica Surf Lessons

Taya Surf - Cut The Crap Costa Rica

Tamarindo is a huge surfing town that luckily enough has great beaches for pro, intermediate, and beginner surfers. If you are a beginner you can do as some have done and just rent a board and try to teach yourself but I highly recommend getting lessons. You can get in a group lesson with iguana surf for 45 dollars, but I think that price is a bit high. To get a lower price I recommend just walking up Tamarindo beach. If you are looking, you should be able to find someone selling private surf lessons for much cheaper.

#4 Tamarindo Costa Rica electric bike rental

The electric bike rental is exactly what it sounds like, These beach cruisers have an electric motor with the perfect amount of power for getting through town, or cruising up and down the beach with friends. If bikes aren’t your style you can also rent the electric skateboard. You can find the rental area in downtown Tamarindo in the parking lot of Plaza De Tamarindo. You can rent the bike at the rate of fifteen dollars for two hours and the skate bored twenty dollars for three hours. Whichever one you choose you will agree is a great bang for the buck!

#3 lunch on Tamarindo beach

I have lived here for almost three years now and my most favorite thing to do is have lunch on the beach (Some of this may be due to my love for food) but it’s still a great activity, no matter who you are. Here in Tamarindo, there are a lot of places to eat on the beach. But great food on the beach isn’t exactly what some consider cheap and I’ll agree, a lot of places here are pricey. But if you go to the right places you can get great Costa Rican food for cheap.

One place is the food court in Tamarindo, you can go order a cheap meal to go and walk down for a picnic on the beach. But for the cheapest and in my opinion best food in Tamarindo you need to go to “Coche Mamas”. Coche Mama is a lovely woman selling great home cooked food from believe it or not the back of her car!! You can find her on the corner in front of the police station and get a great box of food for the beach. Nevertheless, no matter what you choose to eat I’m sure you’ll love it on the beach.

For the thrill-seekers out there, an ATV or buggy guided tour is an absolute must-do activity during your time in Costa Rica. Navigate the rugged terrain surrounding Tamarindo or Conchal, taking in breathtaking ocean vistas and lush jungle landscapes as you zip through the wilderness on these powerful machines. It's an exhilarating way to explore the natural beauty of the Guanacaste region.

Best Western Crazy Monkey Bar

Here in Tamarindo, there is a bar called the Crazy Monkey Bar that is connected to the Best Western. This place has one of the best views I have ever seen, along with an Amazing swimming pool with a waterfall to jump from. The monkey bar does everything from birthday parties to huge club parties at night. But if you aren’t into that scene you can also go during the day order a drink and enjoy the pool if you’re more into that.

#1 Ice Cream at Sunset on
Tamarindo beach

Cut The Crap & Move To Costa Rica Blog start to ice cream - Ellis Page

Now last but certainly not least is ice cream on the beach. In Costa Rica, you can get great ice cream for a great price at nearly any convenient store. The fancy drumstick cones you get in the states for four bucks you can get for about 500 colónes (about one dollar). Then just take your self down to the beach around five or so depending on the time you come to visit in the year and you got yourself a great sunset with ice cream.
